Personal Trainers vs. Online Trainers

Personal Trainers vs. Online Trainers

Author: Jessica Moser

With one google search for online trainers you will get over 2 million results! That’s crazy! When we see all these options it got us thinking....sure it may seem easier, more efficient as these online trainers promise transformations with just 20 min a day, but does that convenience make it the best option for you? The simple answer is no, and here’s why….

You physically meet with your trainer and make a commitment in person. You’re held accountable to an appointment. The need for interpersonal support is primal, we are social animals. We seek the companionship and positive reinforcement of others, especially when we are doing work. The American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) did a study on accountability and found that you have a 65% of completing a goal if you commit to someone. And if you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed, you will increase your chance of success by up to 95%. That’s the first step to any kind of health change isn’t it? Following through with the commitment.

We've all heard it, but it can’t be said enough...learning proper form, from running to lifting techniques is essential in gaining functional strength and preventing injury. We can’t see ourselves from all angels which usually leads to us doing something incorrectly. Our trainers are not only educated to teach you proper form but help you feel proper form. Your trainer is giving you real-time feedback and immediate corrections. These things are essential for avoiding injury. You’ll never get this attention to detail and level of instruction from online training. Our top educated trainers will be able to implement programs to correct and realign anything going on in your bodies from the very first movement assessment.

How many of you have set a New Years Resolution goal just to fall out of them 2 weeks later? Do you have a goal of riding the Leadville 100? Maybe an Ironman is on your bucket list or hiking one of Colorado’s many 14,000ft peaks? But how do you begin to properly train for these and stay committed to the process? This comes back to making that commitment with yourself and your personal trainer, setting goals together and training specifically for your activity, sport or event. They’re here to be your support system and biggest encourager. When you feel like giving up, you trainer is the one who is going to motivate you and nudge you through. Your trainer is going to push you out of your comfort zone and help you set new goals as you break through different ones. Once you start to see the changes, it will become a priority.
